Busy, busy, busy...

It's been crazy around here lately and it seems like we haven't been home all weekend. We were in Fort Smith on Friday picking up David's youngest brother Michael and he stayed all weekend with us. We went on a crazy flea market marathon on Saturday and I spent way too much time on my feet. And Sunday we had to drive back down to Fort Smith to drop him off.

The lesson learned this weekend?
1. Always pack multiple changes of clothes for any child under 1.
2. Make sure you have plenty of gluten-free snacks in the car for Micah.
3. We NEED to buy a trampoline (well, that's what Micah thinks we NEED to do).
4. Our next car has to be a mini-van.

Also this weekend we hit an amazing milestone with Harper! On Sunday morning I brought her into the bedroom and she looked at David, reached out towards him and yelled "DADA!" We were overjoyed! Then when we were dropping Michael off, David's mom yelled at the dog Baby and when she did Harper said "Bay-beeee!" It was so cute. She has always been so chatty and babbled like crazy, but I'm so happy she is imitating us so well now. I can't believe how fast she is growing up.

And this weekend since he was spending so much time with all his cousins (who call David by his actual name) Micah has started thinking it's funny to yell "HELLLOOOOOO DAVID!" But when he was tired and snuggly last night he went back to calling him Daddy again.

But I better wrap this up, I actually woke up this early so I could run to the store before it gets too crazy. The weather is supposed to be horrible tomorrow and I know people are going to be going crazy at Walmart and I want to get there and buy some milk before they run out! I kind of hope we are snowed in, just so I can spend a nice lazy day at home with David and the kids doing NOTHING...

Harper and Micah's room...

I wanted to share some pictures of the kiddos room...

This is Micah's side of the room...including Micah watching Mater's Tall Tales. Haha.
Micah's slide. The pinwheels and name sign I made for him. His vintage Seasame Street blanket hanging on the wall. And of course his Thomas the Train wall stickers (which he LOVES)

Micah's bed with his Snoopy (or Schoopy as he calls him) blanket. His train table. His rocking horse. And his bookshelf, there are a lot more books in his closet and even more in storage! I am bad about buying too many books and I had already saved all of mine from when I was a kid...so he has a pretty large collection!

Harper's side of the room. The pom-poms and name sign I made for her. The thing covered in stuffed animals is an attached changing table but we never used it so it became toy storage!

The view when you walk into the kids room (it's a L shaped room).

And the view inside the crib. :) Harper and her Bunny Foo Foo.

10 of my favorite things...

Well it's Tuesday night...
Both kids are asleep, David is out with his best friend Robert, and I am BORED. I thought this would be a good opportunity to post 10 of my favorite things at this moment...maybe I'll start doing this every Tuesday night.
1. The Investigation Discovery Channel
I am hooked to the shows on this channel. David always says he doesn't understand how I can watch all these shows about crime and murder mysteries...but isn't that better than watching crap like Jersey Shore?

2. Sia-Soon We'll Be Found
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1x8DMfbYN4&ob=av2nm

This is one of my favorite songs ever and now Harper loves it to. I probably listen to this song at least once a day and Harper likes to sit on the floor and sway back and forth to the music. If you've never listened to Sia, you should. Her voice is amazing. Her song Day Too Soon was the song David and I danced to at our wedding.

3. Vintage plates
I love digging through stacks of old plates at thrift stores and yardsales. I have a pretty good collection going so far, but I'm always up for shopping for more! It's a good thing to collect if you're a cheap-skate like me since most of the plates only cost about $1!

4. The baked tortellini from Johnny Carinos
We don't go to Johnny Carinos often, but every time we do I always order the baked tortellini. It's so yummy! Mmmm....I could really go for some right now!

5. Blankets by Craig Thompson
This is my favorite book. Well, I guess technically it's a graphic novel...but either way, I loved it since the very first time I read it! I probably read it once every 6 months or so.

6. Honda Odyssey
Okay, I know it's weird for a 23 year old's dream car to be a mini-van...but I want one so bad!

7. Flea Markets
David and I could spend hours just walking around flea markets. Sometimes on his weekends off my mom will watch the kids and we will start in Lincoln, AR and hit every flea market there, then Fayetteville, Rogers, and Tontitown. We got crazy. Haha.

8. Everything Is Illuminated
It's my favorite movie EVER. Everytime I watch it I still laugh (and I still cry)! I still haven't read the book but I really need to!

9. Dial Nutriskin with grape seed oil
It's my new favorite smell.

10. Watching my kids play together.
I don't think I need to explain this one. :)

Hang 'em up...

I finally hung up part of my vintage plate collection!

Easy like Sunday morning...

It's so quiet here...

Micah spent the night at his Papa's house. Harper is taking her morning nap. David is at work. The house is clean. The laundry is done. I don't know what to do with myself...

At last!!!

Tonight when I was getting the kids dressed for bed I put Micah in his Thomas the Train jammies, his favorite pair. When I pulled the shirt over his head I realized his bellybutton was showing...they were too small. This is so exciting to me. I actually had to call my parents and my husband to brag about this amazing achievement. You see, Micah is almost 3 and only weighed 25lbs a month ago. He hadn't gained weight since his 18 month check up. We couldn't figure out what it was until his Celiacs diagnosis. He has been gluten-free for about a month now and I had noticed behavioral changes, he has way more energy and is talking more. But I hadn't been seeing physical changes except the fact that he was no longer vomiting and his constipation wasn't as bad. But now that his 24 month sized clothes are too small it makes me realize that he is getting better. This is amazing.

More antiques...

As I've said before, I have an addiction to thrift stores, flea markets, and yard sales. So here are a few more of my awesome flea market finds...
I bought this cheese and cracker platter a while back at a thrift store that is on Crossover in Springdale. It was like $3. I couldn't resist the cute glass dome.

I got this "Jam Jar" at Fayetteville Trading Post. It was $1. I keep it next to my stove with sea salt in it
David got me this apple canister set on our 1 year wedding anniversary, which we spent driving around looking at flea markets (seriously, how lucky am I that my husband also likes flea markets and thrift stores?!) They were super cheap, like $9 for the entire set at The Rose Too in Rogers. We have tried to find another apple canister to use as a cookie jar but all of the other ones we've seen have been $30 or more.

And this pie dish was given to me by my adorable sister-in-law. I love it!

Possibly the best thrift store find of my life....

Today my friend Rhonda and I got bored and decided to go to a Thrift store that if right next to where I live. It's on Emma in Springdale, I can't remember the exact name of it but I know it says something about raising money for the blind on the sign. Well they were horribly overpriced on most of their stuff. I fell in love with a blue mason jar to find out it's $25...no way. But when I was walking past a bunch of baby stuff I spotted this! A working E.T. lamp for only $7! I nearly had a heart attack from the excitement! I had to buy it. Now it is living happily on my hallway table, with his chest and fingertip (on his head) glowing.
I also found this acorn canister for $3.50.

And I bought this thing. I don't know exactly what to call it. But it's cute and it was only $2. I will probably use it for serving sides or I will put it up on top of my cabinets for decoration.

Oh so thrifty...

Today was David's day off and we were supposed to have dinner with my parents but since they canceled at the last minute we decided to hit up some flea markets. I love flea markets...they are one of my favorite things in the whole world. My husband likes to say I have an "eclectic" taste in home decor...but I just like to say "I like what I like..."

But here is some of the stuff I bought today for my kitchen.

An appetizer platter for $3. I couldn't resist the cute little deviled eggs and cocktail shrimp.

A raspberry canister for $6. I love canisters, jars, buckets...anything I can put stuff in.

And a peach teapot for $8. It's a little chipped on the spout but I had been looking everywhere for something peachy so I had to buy this! It'll look great on top of my cabinets.

I think tomorrow I will post pictures of the rest of my awesome kitchen crap...I hope nobody minds looking at pictures of random antiques and awesome thrift store finds!

Up and at 'em

My in-laws are coming over today. It's my sister-in-law's birthday so I offered to make lunch and have everyone over. That will be 12 people in our 1,000sq ft apartment...I'm already getting anxious about how this will go. I am making a meatloaf (gluten-free), mashed potatoes, green beans, and my famous cheddar biscuits (not gluten-free but I have a substitute for Micah). I also made a cake and gluten-free brownies.

The transition to gluten-free has been fairly easy, it's just been difficult finding foods that Micah will actually eat. He's always been a picky eater. His diet mainly consisted of chicken nuggets, grilled cheese, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and cheese sticks. We were never super picky about his diet because we were just happy if he ate anything! He would go a whole day eating nothing more than a few crackers or a string cheese. Well it turns out he was like that because his tummy hurt. He never really acted like it hurt, he has always been active and happy. But last year when the vomiting started we knew something was wrong. After MONTHS of me taking him to the doctors, I finally asked if they could refer him to a GI specialist. Finally we went to Little Rock to the Children's Hospital, and guess what? They actually listened to me. They ran a bunch of tests and a biopsy of his stomach and it turns out he had Celiac's disease. They gave us pictures of the inside of his stomach, it was so damaged...his stomach and small intestine were so damaged he wasn't absorbing any nutrients he needed (that's why he is so small).

Now we have been gluten-free for several weeks and have already noticed a change. He is running around and laughing more. He is talking more. He hasn't thrown up either. It's amazing. It was such a relief to find out what was wrong, but I am still overwhelmed with knowing that he will have to deal with this for the rest of his life. He will never be able to eat cake at birthday parties. He will never be able to eat at a restaurant without having to ask for a special menu. When he starts school he will never be able to swap lunches with other kids. And what happens when he starts school and they do parties? Will his teacher warn the other parents to not bring foods with gluten or will Micah just have to go without? This will never go away. You do not outgrow Celiac's disease...

But whatever happens, I must remember that it could be worse. Celiac's disease is manageable...

It could be a lot worse...

Here we go again...

Okay, so I'm going to give this whole blogging thing another try. I guess I will start my first post with a little update on my life.

I'm Heather, a 23 year old mother of 2. I am married to David and we live in Springdale AR. I stay at home with my kids Micah and Harper.

Micah will be 3 in April. He is funny, loving, and very smart. He has Celiac's Disease and is kind of small for his age, but he has lots of energy and can keep up with the other kids with no problem. He loves anything with wheels, Woody from Toy Story, slides, and his favorite thing in the world is his Curious George. He has had George since he was about 3 months old and I don't think he has slept a night without him! George is like my 3rd child, he goes everywhere with us.

Harper is almost 7 months old. She is amazing. She started sleeping through the night at 2 months old (and Micah didn't sleep through the night until 18 months!!!) and she is never cranky. She will smile everytime you say her name and she loves to pinch people's cheeks. She likes anything she can chew on.

My husband David is 27. He manages a Jim's Razorback Pizza in Fayetteville. He loves pretty much all things nerdy. He collects toys from the 80s and our bedroom has shelves of He-man, Ghostbusters, Super Powers, and The Toxic Avenger toys. David is an amazing father and an amazing husband. He has no problem with changing diapers, giving baths, or even going the dishes...just don't let him cook!

And me...I love crafts, cooking, reading, watching crappy reality tv shows, playing outside with my kids, shopping at flea markets and thrift stores, and spending time with my family. To most people my life is probably pretty boring...I don't really like going out and doing much. I suffer from anxiety, and I have my entire life. I have always been a crier. I show my affection by cooking for people or making them things. I am generally a nice person, but I am bad about impersonating stupid people and screaming at bad drivers.

My posts on here will most likely be about my kids and little things going on in my life. So hopefully my adventures of teething and toilet-training will keep you all reading!
